Our names are Karlene Lawrence and Lisa Lashway. We are the co-owners of One Step Ahead Daycare. We decided to open this when Lisa had her first child and wanted to stay home with him, but like so many families could not do this without working. Her mom decided to open the daycare with her.

We have always worked with kids. Lisa grew up babysitting for extra money and Karlene babysat when she first had her kids. Karlene is a certified chef and taught cooking and sewing to young children in her free time through 4-H. She also worked as a brownies leader. Karlene and Lisa were both Native American Re-enactors for 7 years and would teach kids about Native Americans village life and have shared their knowledge by doing presentations at area schools. Lisa has taught gymnastics to children for 4 years. Lisa is a certified elementary teacher and Karlene is a certified paraprofessional. They are both are CPR and first aid certified and will continue to take professional development classes.

We have a great space for the daycare and have received many compliments on our facility and our program. We have turned the former Red Robin Motel into a great kids space. There is a great grass fenced in area for the kids to play when they are outside and we have plenty of indoor space to run around and toys for the children.

We provide lunch and 2 snacks a day. We just ask parents to donate once in a while to help with the meals. We have a flexible schedule to accommodate the children’s needs. Our curriculum includes social and emotional development, cognitive development, language development, and physical development. Children will have opportunities to play, learn, and explore. We will have a cooking day each week. One Step Ahead Daycare will work with families on all areas of their child’s development.
